Buffalo Kaplinski
I’ve been working Plein-Air (on location) in watercolor for over 40 years. I went to the American Academy of Art in Chicago and had the privilege of learning watercolor from Irving Shapiro. The lure of the SouthWest brought me to Taos, New Mexico in 1967. Finally after a year of starving I moved up to Denver at the urging of Jon Zahourek and Ned Jacob. I’ve been in over 50 art shows (too numerous to list). My work has been reproduced on posters, wine labels, CD covers and commissioned to do a large painting by the City and County of Denver for the Red Rocks Park Visitor Center. A painting was featured in the book: 100 Years Up High: Colorado Mountains & Mountaineers. The ultimate experience was when Harmon Graves wrote a book featuring my paintings was published (Sunstone Press). This documents my life and struggles – Passionate Landscape, The Painting Journeys of Buffalo Kaplinski – a book on a living artist! I don’t follow any art trends and have painted in and visited 25 countries. I bless the Lord for a very good life and He’s blessed my art career.
